How to select between a Led and Plasma Tv

Lcd and Plasma flat panel Tvs have evolved considerably in recent years. Even if the plasma technology retains an advantage in the rendering of more natural colors, deeper black, and very large viewing angles, Lcd technology, along with Led backlighting, also produces enhanced rich colors and deep blacks.

Rendering Color

Generally, plasma technology offers richer and more natural colors. However, with some upscale Lcd Tvs, the gap is narrowing considerably. This applies to models that offer very qualitative backlight, along with those with Led technology (which use Leds for backlighting instead of fluorescent tubes). However, the entry-level Lcd displays a less full, range, with drifts of color.

Deep blacks and contrast

Historically, plasma screens have a head start on the Lcd on the depth and shades of black (no backlight to turn off wholly pixels), and show a better distinction ratio. But from a purely optical point, this advantage can not be verified in the dark. The minutes of black may also show themselves better on Lcd screens in a lighted room. Obviously, this information can be disproved by the exceptions relating to the ability of the Tv.

Gloss, matte and satin

Note that the consuming tiles, also called Glossy, improve distinction and density of black in a dark room. But they are more sensitive to light reflections which can be very bothersome while the day. Matte tiles for their part restrict these reflections and accentuate the deep blacks and contrast. The right balance is found in slabs called satin which combines the advantages of two other types of tiles.

Lifespan and Consumption

In terms of lifespan, the plasma has made advance since its longevity is similar to that of Lcd screens: practically 25 years at 4 hours of use per day. It is any way advisable to opt for a plasma if you live in high altitudes. The Lcd is better for the midpoint buyer especially models with Led backlighting. Count an midpoint of 200 Watts for the 32-inch, 250 watts for the 40-inch and 350 watts for 52 inch.

Use

If you are fond of home theater, plasma is an exquisite choice. It keeps the price advantage compared to Lcd panels for very large (> 46 inches) screens. These are also less affected by the phenomenon as marking residue image disappears more or less quickly depending on the model (Logo channel, dashboard video games...). This phenomenon is most marked in the first hours of use, a bit like running a speaker. You should be right in the first six months. any way it should also be noted that this marking phenomenon is reversible and that the recent television offer straight through their menu, tools to address this problem.

The Lcd is more qualified to daily and heterogeneous use (Tv, Dvd, video games). But more and more technology oriented films tend to deep blacks and natural colors of plasma. It is a hard option but hopefully, you'll make the right option for your flat panel tv.

What is the divergence between a Plasma and Lcd Television?


A High Definition Television, Flat Screen Tv, whether Lcd or Plasma now gives Viewers the best picture possible, the picture from these Tvs are so clear that while watching you can nothing else but see a person's blemishes, pores, teeth color, scars and fine wrinkles and other fine details. Many citizen are shopping around for one of these high tech marvels and they want to make the right decision and maybe this guide will help.

There are some factors to consider

Here is a list of the High Definition formats and how manufacturers label them.

720p or 720x1280 - 720 lines progressive scanned

1080i or 1080x1920 - 1,080 lines interlaced scanned

1080p or 1080x1920 - 1,080 lines progressive scanned

The "i" in 1080i stands for interlaced and the "p" in 720p and 1080p stands for progressive, the interlaced format draws lines onto the screen first odd lines then even lines at 1 /30 of a second. The progressive scan format draws the lines all at once, this variation in the formats may or sound like a big variation but it is barely noticeable.

The way they rank High Definition signal formats, 720p and 1080i are much the same in whole resolution while 1080p is the best, but while 1080p is the best. There are still no 1080p signals of High Definition Television being broadcast, there is simply to much data to transmit, so most High Definition broadcasts are done in 720p or 1080i.

Plasma and Lcd Televisions, are both 4" or less in thickness.

A Plasma Television is a flat panel Tv, inside it consists of cells filled with xenon gas, each cell is like a little florescent bulb, when the gas is charged at specific intervals it strikes red, blue and green phosphors within the cells giving off light in the form of color, each cell is called a pixel, these pixels are sandwiched in in the middle of two layers of glass, there are somewhere in the middle of 800,000 and two million tiny pixels.

Plasma Tv's have great color accuracy, high variation ratios and are good for displaying darker colors like black. Plasmas have a fast response time this means watching sports, performance and video games are ideal on this Tv. The Plasma Tv's are only ready in larger sizes more than 32". They are bit heavier than the Lcd Tv, Some say they have a tendency to "burn in" an image onto the screen, if the image is left on for a long period, but this is a debatable topic now with the newer generation of Plasma Tvs, it is also said that the Plasmas uses more power than the Lcd this may be the case on larger Tvs 50" and over, but in the 40" range the power consumption would be about the same. Plasma Tvs are rated to last at around 60,000 hours, this is equal to 20 years if the Tv is on 8 hours a day 7 days a week.

An Lcd Tv is a flat panel television that utilizes much the same basic Liquid Crystal Display technology that has been in used for some years in other products which display visual data such as calculators, cell phones and computer monitors except to achieve the color display it is much more complicated. Lcd panels are made of two layers of a glass-like material, which are polarized, and are "bonded" together. One of the layers is coated with a polymer that holds the personel liquid crystals. Electrical current is then passed through personel crystals, which allow the crystals to pass or block light to create images.

Lcd televisions have a brighter picture than Plasma Tv, they display whiter whites but cannot display the blacks that the Plasma Tv can, the reason is that when the light "blockers" are "on" in the Lcd Tv some light still gets through and you will see a very dark "gray" on the screen whereas with the Plasmas the pixel is off and you see the the black. The response time is not as fast as a plasma Tv and because of this you may consideration some trailing or shadowing of the image when watching sports, playing video games and watching performance movie genres, however I understand they have come out with a 120 hz and now a 240 hz technology for the Lcd Tv that will fully turn or overcome this, currently Lcd s are running on 60hz, 60hz means 60 cycles per second in alternating power source.

Lcd Tv s are lighter in weight thus easier to wall mount, they have no "burn in" and will last as long as a Plasma Tv.

If you want to watch a true 1080p High Definition picture watch a Blue Ray movie on a Blue Ray Player.

Many Television and Satellite Providers are now Broadcasting in the the High Definition format which as mentioned above is 720p or 1080i

Which one is better? I think it's pretty close and I think it's almost a matter of option and you have to decide what medium you will be viewing most often, the size of room and the lighting in the room.

I personally own a top of the line 52" 1080p Lcd mostly because the Sun shines into my south facing window in the late afternoon, but if you are into video games and sports you may want to consider Plasma.

What Are the Differences between a Plasma Tv and an Lcd Tv?


Have a satellite law and now want a flat panel Tv?

So you have gone out and purchased a Dish Network or Direct Tv satellite system. When you got home, you realized that although you have a high definition receiver, your Tv isn't compatible. You have eyed those flat panel Tvs in the store but don't know which one to buy?

Two of the many changes to the world of televisions are the plasma Tv and the Lcd Tv. Both offer slim and sleek designs and enable unique placement, such as above a fireplace or mounting on a wall. Gone are the days of the bulky Crt (cathode ray tube) televisions or rear projection; long live the flat panel!

So how does a plasma television work?

First introduced in 1964, improvements in processing and manufacturing have made the plasma television one of the best. Differing from other television technology, such as Lcd and Crt, the image is created by combining all three colors within each pixel. The signal is sent by a payment straight through the electrodes sandwiched between two glass panels. This changes the state of the plasma gas inside and makes the red, green and blue phosphors glow, creating light on the photo screen.

You can buy plasma televisions in whether Extended Definition (Ed) or High Definition (Hd) resolutions. Ed panels can input full Hd content 1080i (interlaced) but production 500p (progressive) resolution. If you are planning to use the plasma with primarily high definition and/or with a computer, reconsider the Hd model. If you are using it mostly with Dvd, regular satellite, or cable, you will find the Ed model looks great. A good Ed model will outperform a poor Hd plasma television, so pick a good manufacturer.

So how does a Lcd television work?

The Lcd television creates a photo by using a law called Twisted Nematic (Tm). It is a simply twisted crystalline buildings that reacts to galvanic currents in predictable manners. These galvanic currents cause the crystal to untwist to dissimilar degrees based on the voltage given. These Tm crystals are stuck between panes of polarized glass and the untwisting allows varied amounts of light to pass through.

If you are finding for a flat panel television, here are the guidelines. Below 32 inches, buy a Lcd, above buy a plasma. Lcd panels are ready in larger sizes but the cost and quality of image will make a plasma more attractive.

Plasma televisions are better able to display fast movement without any trailing. As well, plasma televisions have a much greater contrast ratio than Lcd televisions. Panasonic lists their plasma televisions at 3000:1, while the best Lcd tends to be only 1000:1 contrast ratio. The plasma television has a greater angle of view and better color saturation too.

One area where the Lcd television has an benefit over plasma is in screen integrity. You need to be faithful with possible burn-in on plasma, but not on the Lcd Tv.
